Liviu Butoi - saxophone, flute
David Patrois - vibraphone
Chris Dahlgren - double bass
Edward Perraud - drums
At the 30th edition, Liviu Butoi, one of the most original saxophonists and flutists in Romanian jazz, will perform in an international quartet, built around long-standing collaborations with French musicians David Patrois and Edward Perraud and American double bassist Chris Dahlgren – a project that continues a musical dialogue that began years ago.
Liviu Butoi played at the first edition of the Gărâna Jazz Festival in 1997 at Hanul La Răscruce and was among those who built the festival's early years. The first four editions bear his direct mark, at a time when everything was built on enthusiasm, friendship, and passion.
He returned regularly to Gărâna, especially in the 2000s alongside Mircea Tiberian, in a partnership that marked an important stage in the history of the festival. In 2003, he was named Musician of the Year by the Romanian Broadcasting Society, and in 2004, he received the Award for Best Recording Performance for the album Păsări, produced together with Edward Perraud, Arnault Cuisinier, and Mircea Tiberian. The albums Dark (2006) and Offerus (2013), in duo with Tiberian, and other recordings, established Liviu Butoi as a remarkable personality on the Romanian jazz scene.
