Bugge Wesseltoft returns to Gărâna Jazz Festival with a project that reflects one of the ideas that has consistently shaped his career: music as a common language across cultures. Joining him are Indian bassist Shri, Nepalese percussionist Sanskriti Shrestha, and Swiss vocalist Carolina Katún, who has Mexican roots—in a lineup that brings traditions, rhythms, and contemporary sounds into dialogue.
OK World was born out of Bugge Wesseltoft’s desire to create a meeting space for musicians from different cultures. The idea took shape in a project created for the Oslo World Festival and then continued as a platform under the Jazzland label. “Music traveled with people long before they could speak the same language,” says Wesseltoft. “It is a powerful common denominator among people.
In turbulent times, when many are building walls, it is important to show that we have more in common than differences.” In this lineup, Wesseltoft’s piano and electronics meet the vibrations created by Shri’s bass, the rhythmic finesse of Sanskriti Shrestha on the tabla, and the expressive voice of Carolina Katún, in an open-ended musical dialogue where identities converse and complement one another.
