Dhafer Youssef will play for the first time at Gărâna Jazz Festival. Master of the oud, owner of an incredibly expressive voice and creator of a unique and intriguingly complex universe, Dhafer Youssef is part of the world elite of jazz musicians. Tireless seeker of new means of expression, the Tunisian musician managed to integrate in his music influences from the oriental tradition and to harmonise those with those of jazz, world and electronic music. He has collaborated with some of the bug names on the jazz scene, such as Nguyên Lê, Markus Stockhausen, Zakir Hussain, Dave Holland, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Paolo Fresu, Bugge Wesseltoft, Marilyn Mazur and others. Dhafer Youssef will bring to stage the sounds of his latest album, Sounds of Mirrors. His long-time dream of exploring indian music came to fruition in the collaboration with Zakir Hussian, to whom some of the songs on the album are dedicated.

“Indian music was the starting point, but I felt we can look for something universal. The album is an ode to friendship and brotherhood. While playing together, we felt we are kindred spirits that reflect each other. thus the title of the album: Sounds of Mirrors.”
