In the 90’s, through his album Khmer, Nils Petter Molvær took jazz in a completely new direction, creating within each concert soundscapes of profound intensity, using musical resources of different genres with incredible ease. Listening to him, ones often forgets the he actually plays a trumpet. With the release of Buoyancy, in 2016, Molvær’s quartet guides the audience through the various chambers of imagination of the four musicians, constantly capturing your attention. Known themes are transformed, recoloured, inducing new emotions and states of being, instantly rebuilding a totally new music.

In the 80’s, Nils Petter Molvær was a member of Masqualero, a group led by Arild Andersen, with Jon Christiansen on percussion and Tore Brunborg on sax. He records a few albums with them, released with ECM, until his debut as leader with Khmer (ECM, 1998). This brings him success and a faithful audience that followed all his following projects. He collaborates with Sidsel Endresen, Marilyn Mazur, Bugge Wesseltoft, Kjetil Bjørnstad, Hector Zazou, Manu Katché, Eivind Aarset, Mino Cinelu and many more. He is a 3 times winner of Spellemannprisen (the Norwegian Grammy equivalent) for Khmer, Solid Ether and Er.
