In 2020 Alexi Tuomarila Trio won the Jazz-Emma for its most recent album Sphere (2019, Edition Records). For more than 15 years Alexi Tuomarila has been quietly building a considerable reputation as one of the finest pianists of his generation in Europe, described by Jazz Times as ‘…one of the next big deals on jazz piano…’ and selected as one of the New Future Names of International Jazz by distinguished British jazz journalist Stuart Nicholson in the Observer newspaper.

Tuomarila has released seven albums as a leader, all receiving worldwide attention and critical acclaim from the international press and fans. Outside of his own projects, he has shared the stage with the likes of Tomasz Stanko, Kenny Wheeler, Rick Margitza, Joey Baron, Jim Black, Gerald Cleaver, Reuben Rogers, Eric Revis, Bill Evans, Peter Erskine, Anders Jormin, Perico Sambeat, Thomas Morgan, Reggie Washington, Trygve Seim, Andre Fernandes, Tore Brunborg, Nelson Veras and UMO Jazz Orchestra just to name a few.
