For over two decades, Mathias Eick has held a special place within Scandinavian jazz. He gained renown among jazz trumpet players for the fine emotional tapestries woven with the sound of his trumpet. His five albums as leader (his latest, “When We Leave”, released last year with ECM) reflect his original musical universe. The unmistakable sound of his trumpet, his melodious compositions and the lyrical evocations have been appreciated by audience and critics alike. He has had long-term collaborations with Jaga Jazzist and Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, he played with Chick Corea, as well as with Motorpsycho, Jacob Young, Iro Haarla, Manu Katché, Lars Danielsson, Jan Gunnar Hoff, Thomas Dybdahl, Ulver and Youn Sun Nah.
