Finish trumpet player Verneri Pohjola is a reference name in contemporary Finish jazz. The profoundness and warmth of his music, his sound and unique interpretation style have for-ever consolidated his reputation as one of the most appreciated jazz musicians in Europe.

In the early 2000’s, Pohjola became known to a wider audience as the leader of Ilmiliekki Quartet and as the only instrumental soloist of the soul group Quintessence. His debut album as a leader, Aurora (Texicalli Records 2009/ACT 2011), winner of the Jazz Emma Award, shook the European and American jazz scenes, receiving glowing reviews. For his album Bullhorn, released in 2015, he received another Emma and the Yrjö Award – one of the highest jazz distinctions in Finland. His most recent album “The Dead Don’t Dream”, awas released in May 2020.
