Sinikka Langeland is one of the precious voices of the North. She started her career singing traditional music and later turned towards improvisation, using jazz resources to create extraordinary projects. Sinikka Langeland has mastered both her voice and the kantele – a traditional Finnish instrument. Throughout her career she has discovered and researched a musical treasure trove from the region of Finnskogen. At Garana Jazz Festival 2023 she will present her project “Wind and Sun”, alongside an ensemble of stars of Norwegian jazz. Fascinated by natural mysticism, Sinikka Langeland finds within the poems of Jon Fosse a sounds that resonated with herself. Music is based on folklore but the artists wants to bring into the present the timeless aspect of Fosse’s poems, through the means of artists that use modern modes of expression. The kantele almost sounds like an orchestra by itself, and the members of her group are exceptional: Kristina Fransson, Bendik Hofseth, Jo Skaansar and Markku Ounaskari. A slide deck of photos signed by Dag Alveng, created specifically for this project, will accompany the music.

The artists uplift the compositions to new heights with their improvisation and masterful interpretations, inviting us all to a journey within the timeless landscape imagined by Jon Fosse.
