The young and very talented Polish saxophone player Maciej Obara has prepared for the summer audience of Garana Jazz Festival a concert both lyrical and full of energy, fuelled by an enormous passion for improvisation, in short: a concert to love – despite the name of the album he is promoting: Unloved. He debuted with ECM Records in 2017 with this album, conceived as a personal declaration to his dear people and the places that inspire him.

Joined by three great Scandinavian jazz artists, Norwegians Håvard Wiik on piano and Ole Morten Vågan on bass and Swedish Jon Fält on drums, they will compose in real time an improvised and eccentric musical picture. The two musical traditions of Polish and Scandinavian jazz have left their mark on the quartet, resulting in an original sound, a music that is honest and free.

Maciej Obara Quartet are the new winner of the BMW Welt Jazz Award 2019 (in the final they competed against Rudresh Mahanthappa Quintet). For the Garana audience it is sure to be another winning concert as well!
