Soft Machine, one fo the most famous British avant/jazz-rock bands, will honor the festival with its presence. Part of the tour that commemorates 55 since their debut, Soft Machine showcases John Etheridge (guitar), who was member of the group when the renowned album “Softs” was recorded in 1975. He is joined by saxophone-star Theo Travis (Robert Fripp/David Gilmour/Gong), Fred Thelonious Baker on bass and Nic Franced (David Gilmour/Charlie Haden/Ronnie Scott/John Taylor) on drums. Soft Machine‘s repertoire contains composition by Hugh Hopper, Mike Ratledge and Karl Jenkins, as well as contemporary pieces, from the album “Hidden Details”, released in 2018, 50 years after the band’s debut.
While the composition of Soft Machine had changed over the decades, their musical spirit has remained intact. The voracious apatite sfor adventure, the ease with which they switch from jazz fusion to progressive and ambiental, psychedelic, improvised jazz-rock and free jazz are the qualities that have been handed down from one composition to the next, conserving the uniqueness that is Soft Machine.
