France Jazz Meeting at Garana Jazz Festival 23

Three French musical experiences in the Semenic Mountains, on July 13th

There are only two months left until GARANA, the mountain jazz holiday, the most anticipated musical experience of the year. The Program of the 23rd edition of Garana Jazz Festival includes the France Jazz Meeting, a special event, part of the Romania-France 2019 season. Saturday, July 13th the Wolf’s Meadow audience will discover French jazz through the medium of three novel bands: Renaud Garcia-Fons & Dorantes, Jacky Terrasson Trio and Grégory Privat Trio.

The meeting of French bass player Renaud Garcia-Fons and pianist Dorantes, originally from Andalusia, Spain, will be unique, brought into being by their common passion for flamenco. This remarkable duo will perform their show with a warm, Mediterranean atmosphere: an original take on flamenco, filtered through jazz and enriched by spectacular improvisation. It will be a statement of 21st century flamenco.

Pianist Jacky Terrasson wasn’t called “un pianiste du bonheur” without reason. Terrasson knows how to convey joy and lust for life better than anyone else. Always looking to invent, to explore, he manages to impress his audience with passion, subtlety and skill. At Garana, Jacky Terrasson will be joint by two equally impressive partners: New Yorker Ali Jackson and French bass player Sylvain Romano.

Born in Martinique, pianist and composer Grégory Privat defined his musical DNA in relation to the various Carribean cultures in order to give his jazz music colour, warmth and passion – exactly what is needed to heat up a Semenic summer night. In 2015, Grégory Privat was awarded the title ”revelation of the year” at the ”Victoires du Jazz” gala, the most important jazz event in France. Saturday, at Garana 23, alongside Chris Jennings on bass and Tilo Bertholo on drums, Grégory Privat will try to create „a music capable to turn the world into a magical place”.

At Garana Jazz Festival 23, jazz lovers will encounter, each evening, musical experiences from around the world, such as: Jan Garbarek Group feat. Trilok Gurtu, Mathisen – Robin – Borlai, Trygve Seim Quartet, John Surman Trio, Giovanni Guidi Quintet, Moshulu and many others. The Festival Program  will soon be enriched with more groups.

This year’s edition of Garana Jazz Festival is part of the Romania-France Season 2019, a rich program that aims to reinvent Romanian-French relations in the context of their celebration, together with the rest of Europe, of the Centennial of the end of the First World War and of Romania’s 100 years since the Great Union.

The Romania-France Season – a program organized by the Romanian Government with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Romanian Cultural Institute, the Institut Français and the French Embassy – marks, over the course of eight months (27th November 2018 – 14th July 2019) a partnership and a dialogue without precedent between artists from various fields from the two countries. www.sezonulromaniafranta.ro
